Overview

About the project

StudyPass is New Zealand’s number one learning resource, supporting secondary students with expertly crafted tools to learn, connect, and apply key concepts in Mathematics and Science. The team – made up of a small group of educators and designers – focused on helping students build strong conceptual foundations aligned to the New Zealand curriculum.

The brief was to deliver clear, accessible design across both physical and digital touchpoints. Working closely with teachers who developed the curriculum, I designed the full suite of StudyPass books and fold-out-notes, ensuring content was visually structured for clarity and comprehension. I also designed the website and other supporting materials – bringing consistency and usability across the brand.

Tools:

Content creation

Creative concept

As New Zealand’s number one learning resource, StudyPass needed a design system that reflected its reputation for quality and trust. The creative direction centred around clarity and accessibility—using a clean layout, a calm blue palette, and a structured typographic hierarchy to support fast, focused learning.

Design choices echoed the educational philosophy behind the brand: by focusing on essential concepts, students gain a deeper understanding and stronger foundation for success. Consistent visual elements were used across every touchpoint to help unify the learning experience, whether online, in the classroom, or at home.

Guides and fold-out-notes

The core product – revision guides and durable fold-out notes – was designed to support quick reference and concept clarity. Working directly with subject teachers, I structured complex academic material into accessible, student-friendly formats. Colour-coded subjects, logical flow, and minimal visual noise helped students absorb key content at a glance.

eCommerce website

A streamlined eCommerce site made it easy to browse products, compare guides, and purchase bundles directly from the homepage.

Teachers portal

A password-protected section gave teachers access to downloadable resources, exam support, and lesson planning materials.

Student portal

An engaging, mobile-friendly dashboard allowed students to track subjects, access study tips, and get the most from their guides.

Learnings

This project reinforced the value of designing with clarity – across both print and digital formats. Working on such a multifaceted product highlighted the importance of consistent systems, especially in education where user trust and usability are critical.

Designing directly from curriculum content reinforced how vital layout and structure are in supporting learning. Collaborating with educators brought new insight into how design thinking can elevate educational outcomes across both print and digital platforms.
